TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING TEAM EXIT DENVER IN SECOND ROUND

DENVER, CO – July 25, 2010 – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team looked forward to the challenge of Denver and had three things they wanted to accomplish to close the West Coast Swing.

Of the items on their checklist, Tasca and the team achieved two of those goals – run well in Denver and secure a spot in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series 2010 Countdown to 1. The third goal – win on the West Coast Swing ended in the second round.

Tasca continued his streak of top-eight qualifying efforts this weekend. Tasca qualified his Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang in the top half of the field for 12 of the 16 races this season. Tasca’s best Denver run of 4.240 seconds at 293.86 miles per hour would lock him in the seventh qualifying position.

For the fourth time this season, Tasca would face alliance teammate Tim Wilkerson in the first round. Looking to have a different result from the previous two meetings, Tasca posted a clean 4.285 second pass at 294.37 miles an hour which defeated Wilkerson’s 5.241 second run at 145.99 miles per hour. Wilkerson appeared to have lost traction at the 400 foot marker while Tasca sailed through to the finish line.

In the second round, it was another battle of the Ford Mustangs as Tasca faced John Force. In a side-by-side race to the end, Tasca’s Mustang was leading until the final few feet. Tasca ran a 4.292 second pass at 291.32 miles per hour to Force’s 4.280 second pass at 293.66 miles per hour. Force’s margin of victory was 0.0033 seconds, approximately 17 inches.

“It is hard to believe that it [losing the round by inches] could happen again,” said Tasca. “It was a tremendous race against John. Our increments were almost identical going all the way down the race track and he beat us by inches. Close racing like that is what makes this sport so exciting and that’s what the fans come to see. The field is so competitive and we just ended up on the short side of the stick two races in a row.”

Despite the second round loss, Tasca will compete for the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car Championship for the second consecutive year. Tasca solidified his position in the playoffs after the final qualifying session in Denver.

“Our short term goal was to get into the top 10 – mission accomplished,” said Tasca. “Our long term goal is to win the championship and I’ve never been more confident going into the Countdown than I am right now with the team and race car that we have. We’ve really put ourselves in a position to fight for wins and this championship.”

Tasca gives credit to the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team and crew chiefs Chris Cunningham and Marc Denner for their extra efforts in Denver and the 2010 season to date.

“I’m proud of Chris, Marc and the entire Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team for making the right calls this weekend and all season,” said Tasca. “This Ford BOSS 500 engine is a new program for us, especially going to a condition that we haven’t seen all season and won’t see again until next year. They had the Mustang dialed in for every run this weekend. This is an exciting time for the team. I know Chris, Marc and the guys are really pumped up about the Countdown. Thanks to my crew for their hard work and giving me a Mustang that ran strong all weekend.”

Robert Hight defeated John Force in the finals to win Sunday’s 31st Annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals in Denver, Colorado.

“Congratulations to John Force and Robert Hight for making Denver an all Ford final,” said Tasca. “It has been a tremendous season for Ford. All the Ford teams have the same goal and that is to win the Funny Car championship. The five of us have put ourselves in a position to do that, which is 50 percent of the field, but the other 50 percent of the field that wants to win it as bad as we do.”

The series returns to competition on August 13 for the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd, Minnesota.

Tasca and Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing Team Clinch Seventh Spot in NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Countdown to 1

TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING TEAM CLINCH SEVENTH SPOT IN NHRA FULL THROTTLE DRAG RACING COUNTDOWN TO 1.
DEARBORN, MI., July 24, 2010 – Three years and 63 races after Bob Tasca III began racing the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang Nitro Funny Car, he will compete for the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Funny Car Championship.

Tasca clinched the seventh spot of 10 drivers for NHRA’s 2010 Countdown to 1 after qualifying seventh for this weekend’s NHRA race in Denver.
“Congratulations to Bob and the entire Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team on securing a spot in the Countdown to 1,” said Brett Wheatley, Director of Marketing, Ford Customer Service Division. “Bob has brought the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team to a new level this season. From making the transition to the Ford BOSS 500 engine platform, to winning in Englishtown with the FordParts.com Mustang, Bob’s performance has made all of us at Ford proud. We are looking forward to seeing Bob’s Mustang win a lot more rounds and, hopefully, the championship.”
Tasca and the team were determined to make the Countdown for the second consecutive season. In the first 15 races of 2010, Tasca earned one win, one runner-up finish, five semi-final appearances and a total of 19 round wins. Earlier this season, Tasca made the transition to the Ford BOSS 500 engine developed by Ford Racing and John Force Racing.
“I’m very excited to have locked into the Top 10 and to be able to compete for the 2010 NHRA Funny Car Championship title,” said Tasca. “To lock in the Countdown in the seventh position speaks volumes to the hard work and dedication that everybody on the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team has put into the program this year. We’ve had a very successful season and look forward to continuing and building on that success. Over the last couple of races you’ve seen us catch our stride. Our confidence and data is growing in leaps and bounds as we fully progress with the Ford BOSS engine platform.”
The six-race, Countdown to 1 begins at the 56th Annual MAC Tools US Nationals in Indianapolis, IN, the weekend of September 1-6.
“When we started the program three years ago, one of my primary goals was to win a championship for sponsors Motorcraft, Quick Lane and Ford,” said Tasca. “I’ve never been more confident than I am right now for this championship run. I believe our team can win a championship. I’m proud of my team led by Chris [Cunningham] and Marc [Denner]. The entire team and support from our sponsors has put us in a position to compete for a national championship.”
In 2009, Tasca secured the sixth spot in the Countdown to 1 and finished the season in the eighth position.

TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING LOOKING FORWARD TO THE CHALLENGES OF DENVER

DEARBORN, MI – July 20, 2010 – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team may have left Sonoma early by just a few inches, but they plan to take those inches and get at least one more round win this weekend in Denver.
Tasca and the team returned to the strong performance they exhibited earlier this season with a semifinal appearance in Somona, providing a needed boost to the team heading into this weekend’s NHRA event in Denver. Just by qualifying this weekend, Tasca will assure himself a berth in the NHRA Countdown to 1 playoffs.
“In the last two months, we’ve had one win, two semifinal appearances and two first-round losses, but those first-round losses have asterisks by them because we had some mechanical issues in those two races,” said Tasca. “We diagnosed the issue and got our stuff pulled together. We were back in the semifinals and probably one of the top cars to beat this past weekend. With what we accomplished in Sonoma, I’m very confident heading into Denver.”
Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team look forward to the high-altitude challenges Denver presents to their Mustang’s tune-up. Tasca believes that a little bit of skill and a little bit of luck will go far in Denver.
“Denver is one of those races where you can go in with confidence but you also go in with your fingers crossed because you are in a type of air that you don’t see the entire season,” said Tasca. “Denver is 9,000 feet above sea level, and we have a new combination in the BOSS 500 engine. Chris Cunningham, Marc Denner and I have spent a lot of time talking about our strategy and brainstorming ideas on what to do with this set-up at that altitude. We have a team that can put a plan together and put ourselves in a position to win.”
Tasca will rely on crew chief Chris Cunningham for the proper tune-up heading into this weekend’s NHRA event in Denver. Cunningham has more than 25 years experience working on a Funny Car and Tasca will yield to his expertise in the mile-high city.
“For the last three months, Chris has been thinking about Denver,” said Tasca. “Denver is not something you just roll in and take your stock pistons and rods off the rack and stick them in the motor. Denver is a total tune-up change – rods, pistons, compression, fuel, fuel volume, ignition and clutch. We’ve got to make the right decisions and Chris has certainly done a lot of prep work to get ready for Denver. I’m very confident that he’ll make the right decisions.”

TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING REACH SEMIFINALS IN SONOMA

SONOMA, CA – July 18, 2010 – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team entered this weekend’s NHRA race at Sonoma with confidence and looked to earn their first West Coast win. Tasca’s weekend was two inches shy of reaching the finals but improved his position in the points standings.

Tasca opened the weekend by driving to the top of the pack. During the first qualifying session, Tasca posted low ET of the session with a 4.152 second run at 300.73 miles per hour. As a result of his low ET pass, Tasca earned three bonus points.
During the late qualifying session on Friday, Tasca improved on his opening pass with a 4.130 second run at 304.39 miles per hour. Tasca was comfortably in the top half of the field and would head into Saturday’s qualifying sessions in the fifth position. After all four qualifying sessions were complete, Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team kept their 4.130 second run and locked into the fifth position.

“Our Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang showed amazing performance in every qualifying run,” said Tasca. “The only run we missed was the Friday night run. The Mustang ran weak relative to what we wanted to run because we had some mechanical issues. We came out of the box strong and ended the day in the top five.”

Tasca would face Paul Lee during Sunday’s eliminations. It was the first time Tasca would race Lee in the elimination rounds. Tasca defeated Paul Lee with a solid 4.198 second pass at 301.13 miles per hour.

Tasca had lane choice over Cruz Pedregon in the second round. Tasca was first off the line against Pedregon and would lead the entire race. Tasca’s Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang ran 4.152 seconds at 299.13 miles per hour compared to Pedregon’s 4.17 second run at 300 miles per hour. Tasca’s margin of victory was 0.0268 seconds, approximately 12 feet.

In the semifinals, Tasca faced the Dodge Charger of Jack Beckman. The pair had similar reaction times and Tasca was in the lead until the final few feet. Tasca’s red and black Mustang posted a 4.22 second pass at 296.83 miles per hour but was fractions of a second behind Beckman’s 4.221 second pass at 298.73 miles per hour. Beckman’s margin of victory over Tasca was 0.0004 seconds, approximately two inches.

“That semifinal run must have been one of the closest races in the history of the sport,” said Tasca. “It was so close; I’m not sure how NHRA measured it. I’m so proud of the team and thank them for how hard they worked this weekend to put our Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang in the semifinals.”

From unloading the Mustang on Friday to the elimination rounds on Sunday, the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team was probably the hardest working Funny Car team in Sonoma.

“Our Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang made seven pulls down the race track - all phenomenal runs, but we put five motors in the car since Friday,” said Tasca. “We’ve had all kinds of crazy things happen this weekend to our Mustang. As the owner/driver of this team, I take my hat off to my team. They were working on the race car until 1:30 on Friday night/Saturday morning and changed two motors during eliminations today. The guys did a tremendous job this weekend and did everything they could to make our runs incredible.”

Tasca improved his position in the Funny Car points standings but will have to wait until Denver to clinch his spot in the Countdown to 1 playoffs.

“We moved up to seventh in the points and we’re real close to locking in our spot in the Countdown to 1,” said Tasca. “We gambled by making this switch to the Ford BOSS 500 engine mid-season. Our goal was to make the engine transition and be ready for the Countdown to 1. B we need to make the Countdown first and we look to do that next weekend in Denver.”

Ron Capps defeated teammate Jack Beckman to win the 23rd Annual FRAM-Autolite NHRA Nationals in Sonoma, CA.

TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING BRING CONFIDENCE TO SONOMA

DEARBORN, MI – July 13, 2010 – After a disappointing start to the West Coast Swing in Seattle, Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing have dusted themselves off and are ready to attack the track in Sonoma in this weekend’s NHRA California stop.

Tasca and the team appeared to have a strong start to the West Coast Swing by qualifying sixth for the Seattle event. While strong and confident during the qualifying session, an ignition malfunction prevented the team from advancing during Sunday’s eliminations. Down, but not out, the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team will take the good runs they produced in Seattle as motivation heading into Sonoma this weekend.

“We were third quick in both Friday and Saturday night sessions in Seattle, so we did a lot of good things in qualifying,” said Tasca. “Unfortunately, we had that ignition malfunction in the first round. On the positive side, we have a lot of good data in the heat and know what caused the problem on Sunday. So, we’ll fix that ignition problem, take some of the Seattle day runs, move down to Sonoma and improve in qualifying and eliminations.”

Tasca, a born and bred East Coast businessman and racer, always looks forward to racing in the wine country of Sonoma and northern California. Tasca still looks to capture a win west of the Rocky Mountains this season.

“Infineon Raceway is a great facility and I can’t say enough about the California fans,” said Tasca. “The track conditions play a huge role in running big numbers in Sonoma. The race track is at sea level, so the air is typically tremendous.”

Now accustomed to the summer heat, Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team are prepared to handle the hot track conditions, and the track they will race on this weekend in Sonoma will be just that.

“Even though it’s real hot, that Friday night session is a run I look forward to and so do the fans,” said Tasca. “Obviously, on Saturday you need to be good in the heat because those are the conditions we’ll see on Sunday. We’ve really put a lot of work into our Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang and we’re looking forward to running there this weekend in Sonoma.”

TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING EXIT SEATTLE IN THE FIRST ROUND

KENT, WA – July 11, 2010 – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing looked to bring some of their East Coast success to the West Coast Swing this weekend in Seattle. Unfortunately those hopes were dashed in the first round after an ignition malfunction.

During Friday’s qualifying second session, Tasca posted a 4.257 second pass at 285.29 miles per hour. Tasca was the third quickest of the second and fourth qualifying session at Seattle.

“We were third quickest in both Friday and Saturday night sessions,” said Tasca. “We did a lot of good things in qualifying and worked our way into the top half of the field. We are ready for race day.”

After four qualifying passes, Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team kept their 4.257 second run and locked into the sixth position. Tasca would face fellow Ford Mustang Funny Car driver Tim Wilkerson during Sunday’s eliminations.

On Sunday morning, Tasca’s Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang made a quicker pass than his qualifying effort with a 4.219 second run at 293.66 miles per hour. Tasca’s pass wasn’t quick enough to beat Tim Wilkerson’s 4.150 second run at 302.82 miles per hour.

After returning to the pits, crew chiefs Chris Cunningham and Marc Denner determined the Shelby Mustang had an ignition malfunction during the first round.

“Our Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang ran decent but it didn’t run good enough to beat Tim,” said Tasca. “The good news is that we know what happened, but that bad news is that we didn’t win that round. It was disappointing to kick the West Coast Swing off with a loss, but the good news is there are two more races to go. We have a lot of confidence going into Sonoma knowing that it was an ignition malfunction. It worked all weekend up until the first run this morning.”

Tim Wilkerson won the NHRA Northwest Nationals in Seattle, Washington.

“I’m not happy that we lost, but if I have to pick a guy to lose to, Tim’s my first choice,” said Tasca. “It’s great to see him carry on the Ford banner all the way to the finals.”

Online Voting Begins for Ford Customer Service Division’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Car Design Contest to Support JDRF

ONLINE VOTING BEGINS FOR FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE DIVISION’S NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES CAR DESIGN CONTEST TO SUPPORT JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION
Voting for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) design that will be featured on the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car begins Tuesday, July 6, and ends on September 3, a total of 60 days in honor of Wood Brothers Racing’s 60-year anniversary of racing Ford products in NASCAR.

The public is invited to visit www.jdrf.org/ford to make a donation for their favorite car design. The top five, donation-earning designs will be judged and narrowed down to one. The winning design will be featured at the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 14.

DEARBORN, Mich., July 6, 2010 – Ladies and gentlemen, start your voting!

Starting today, and running through September 3, the public is invited to visit www.jdrf.org/ford, and vote for their favorite children’s design by making a monetary donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), all as part of Ford Customer Service Division’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Car Design Contest.

For the past two years JDRF children have helped design the paint scheme featured on the NHRA Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang Nitro Funny Car. This year, in honor of the Wood Brothers celebrating 60 years of racing Ford products in NASCAR, FCSD has decided to bring the successful contest over to the legendary race team.

The top five donation-earning designs will go in front of a panel of judges and narrowed down to one. The winning design will be featured on the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane sponsored Ford Fusion NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car driven by Bill Elliott during the Bank of America 500 in Charlotte, NC, on October 14-16.

For the past month, JDRF children have taken their crayons, markers and paintbrushes to a blank canvas in the shape of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion. In October, one lucky artist will see his or her winning design come to life on the famous No. 21 car.

“We are delighted to bring this contest which has seen so much success through our NHRA program to NASCAR,” said Brett Wheatley, Director of Marketing, Ford Customer Service Division. “The children did a tremendous job with their paint schemes for this year’s contest. This program has been a great way to generate awareness and funding for a worthy cause. We’re honored to partner with the Wood Brothers and JDRF for the program this year. ”

The winning designer will be selected on September 8, 2010 and will be invited with his or her parents for an official unveiling of their paint scheme at the Wood Brothers Racing shop in Charlotte, NC, on Wednesday, October 13. In addition, the winning child will also get the chance to see their car design run at Charlotte Motor Speedway during NASCAR Sprint Cup qualifying on Thursday, October 14.

Last year’s winner was Liam Flanagan, an eight-year-old resident of Williamstown, New Jersey, and a member of the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Flanagan and his family were special guests at the NHRA Carolinas Nationals in Concord, NC, where his design appeared on Bob Tasca III’s Ford Shelby Mustang Nitro Funny Car. Last year’s contest drew over 300 designs and helped raise awareness and more than $39,500 for JDRF.

Diabetes affects more Ford families than any other disease. Ford Motor Company has raised more than $27 million for JDRF since the grassroots campaign started in 1998.

About Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)
JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease, which strikes children suddenly and requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications, which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation.
Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1.3 billion to diabetes research, including more than $156 million in FY2008. In FY2008, the Foundation funded 1,000 centers, grants and fellowships in 22 countries. http://www.jdrf.org

Tasca and Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing Look to Pick Up the Pace at Seattle and the Start of the West Coast Swing

TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING LOOK TO PICK UP THE PACE AT SEATTLE AND THE START OF THE WEST COAST SWING

DEARBORN, MI – July 7, 2010 – After the four-race stretch in June and the holiday break, Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team head to Seattle and the start of the three race West Coast Swing look to reclaim the dominance their Ford Mustang demonstrated this season in Funny Car. During the 2010 season, a Ford Funny Car has celebrated in the winner’s circle 10 times; Tasca contributed to that streak with his Englishtown win.

As one of the five Ford teams in NHRA, Tasca sees the West Coast Swing as the pivotal point in the regular season. Currently sixth place in series points, Tasca looks to prove his staying power and lock his team in the Countdown to 1 with a strong West Coast Swing.

“We are in a good points position right now, but a really great race here on the West Coast Swing locks us into the Top 10, and that is a big advantage,” said Tasca. “When you go into the West Coast, you don’t need the pressure of trying to get into the Top 10, because anything can happen out there. By Sonoma, the playoff picture is going to be pretty crystallized. There will be a few players that are still fighting for it and then Indy and the start of the Countdown to 1 are right around the corner.”

Tasca and the team bring the power and performance of the Ford BOSS 500 engine to improve their stats in Seattle. With their 1-2 record in Seattle, Tasca looks to turn that around with a solid performance this weekend.

“On my first foray to the West Coast Swing, I didn’t win a round,” said Tasca. “I really want to do well out West. I’m an East Coast guy and all of my wins have been on the East Coast with Englishtown, Gainesville and Norwalk. I feel the key to success in Seattle, and it’s the same no matter where we go, is to get out of the box fast. We want to have a good run early Friday to set up for Friday night. Then you want to run well on Saturday to get your baseline for Sunday. We’ll take it one race at a time, but I’m really shooting to take home a trophy or two from the West Coast.”
