TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING REACH SEMIFINALS AT LAS VEGAS; MAINTAIN FIFTH IN SERIES STANDINGS

LAS VEGAS, NV – October 31, 2010 – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team entered The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway determined to perform well. Perform well they did, although they lost to eventual race champion John Force in the semifinals.

Tasca qualified in the sixth position for Sunday’s eliminations after posting a weekend’s best qualifying effort of 4.092 seconds at 309.20 miles per hour during Friday’s opening session.
In the opening elimination round, Tasca faced Gary Densham. Tasca was first off the line and had a clean pass to the finish line, while Densham smoked the tires at 300 feet. Tasca posted a 4.158-second pass at 305.49 miles per hour compared to Densham’s 6.190-second pass at 118.94 miles per hour.

During the quarterfinals, Tasca faced the Dodge of Ron Capps. The pair had nearly identical reaction times and Capps took the lead but started smoking the tires just past the 330-foot marker. Tasca dropped a cylinder at the hit of the throttle, but recovered in time to pass Capps at the 660-foot maker. Tasca’s 4.305-second run at 297.94 miles per hour defeated Capps’ 4.763-second run at 183.87 miles per hour. Tasca’s margin of victory was 0.4573 seconds, more than 100 feet.

In the semifinals, Tasca faced fellow Ford driver John Force. Tasca was first off the line, shook the tires and pedaled the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang. Force had a clean pass with a 4.130-second run at 307.72 miles per hour compared to Tasca’s 5.962-second run at 122.71 miles per hour.

“It was a very good weekend for us but it wasn’t good enough,” said Tasca. “We race to win and that’s the attitude of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team. Unfortunately we just missed by just a hair. I felt the car rattle so I pedaled it. With a fuel car, sometimes it will stick and go, other times it will smoke the tires. When I pedaled it, the clutch was flying at the engine and the track was good. It actually has enough energy to take the car and wheelie it. I was able to get out of it [tire shake] and get back in control.”

Tasca remains fifth in series points with one race remaining in the 2010 season. Before heading to Pomona, Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team will test in Las Vegas.

“For this Motorcraft/Quick Lane team, we’ve positioned ourselves in the number five spot, put a lot of points on everyone behind us and closed the gap a little bit on the fourth spot,” said Tasca. “We have a real shot to move into that fourth spot in our third year. That’s something I know my whole team is proud of accomplishing. Winning the championship and winning races is why I’m out here; it’s why I’m dedicating my life to it. We made a lot of progress this year and you can see our development on track with our performance in posting big numbers in optimal conditions. I’d love to end the season on a win in Pomona and carry some momentum to next year.”

Force defeated Matt Hagan in the finals to win Sunday’s 10th Annual NHRA Las Vegas Nationals.

“I tip my hat to John; he had a great hot rod this weekend,” said Tasca. “Congratulations to John; he made a big gain in points to put his team and Ford in a position to win the championship going into Pomona.”

The series takes a break for one weekend and returns on Thursday, November 11, for the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals, in Pomona, CA.

TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING QUALIFY SIXTH IN LAS VEGAS

LAS VEGAS, NV – October 30, 2010 – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team entered The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway determined to perform well.

Tasca and the team showed the competition and fans they were in Las Vegas to win with an impressive opening qualifying effort of 4.092 seconds at 309.20 miles per hour. Tasca was the second quickest ET of the opening round and top speed. Tasca earned two additional points for posting the second quickest ET of the session.

Tasca smoked the tires in the second and third qualifying runs. Then in the final qualifying effort late Saturday evening, Tasca posted a 4.215 second run at 277.60 miles per hour.

After completing four qualifying sessions, Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team locked into the sixth qualifying position. This effort marks the 18th time this season the team has qualified on the top half of the ladder.

“It’s been a long day for the teams, crew chiefs, drivers and especially the fans,” said Tasca. “The conditions were unbelievable today because the air was real dry. We ran a 4.21 in the final qualifying session, which was off from what we wanted to run due to a dropped cylinder early in the run. The good news is we ran a 4.09 in Q1 on Friday, which put us in the sixth spot going into Sunday.”

During the first elimination round on Sunday, Tasca faces 11th qualifier Gary Densham. The last time the pair met was during 2008 race at Atlanta where Tasca defeated Densham in the second round.

“When you are on the top side of the ladder and you have lane choice in the first round, it is a good qualifying effort,” said Tasca. “We’re in Vegas and I’m feeling lucky. We’re looking forward to seeing how or Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang does on Sunday.”

Ghouls and Goblins Not Going to Faze Tasca and Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team During Las Vegas Race

GHOULS AND GOBLINS NOT GOING TO FAZE TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE TEAM DURING LAS VEGAS RACE
DEARBORN, MI – October 27, 2010 – As the 2010 season draws to a close, Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team have a few tricks up their sleeves for this weekend’s event in Las Vegas.
With two races remaining, Tasca looks forward to racing his Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang and watching the Funny Car Championship battle heat up. Currently fifth in series points, Tasca will remain focused on his racing path, while keeping tabs on the top two drivers in the Funny Car class.
“This is a very exciting part of the season,” said Tasca. “Two races to go and there’s so much still undecided with the championship up in the air. I’m confident we have a legitimate shot at finishing this season in third or fourth in points, which would be a huge improvement over last year. It’s an important two races for our team, even though we’re not in the championship discussion, but we want to do well and end the season on a high note.”
The Funny Car driver/owner is confident about this weekend’s event. Always looking ahead, Tasca looks to accomplish several tasks this weekend that will benefit the team in the closing weeks of 2010 and the start of 2011.
“There’s so much on the line this weekend and for next year,” said Tasca. “We’re going to Las Vegas with our best foot forward. Truthfully, there should be record-setting conditions and we’re going to spend the Monday after Las Vegas testing, preparing for Pomona and for the 2011 season. We’re going to Las Vegas to learn a lot; but we’re also going there to win.”
The clock is ticking for Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team, who want to mirror their win statistic from the 2009 season. Tasca earned two wins in 2009 (Gainesville and Reading). This year, Tasca has one win and thinks Las Vegas will be the opportune time to pick up his second win of the season.
“The Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team needs a win to end this season,” said Tasca. “I feel very confident that we’re going into Las Vegas with a race car that go to the pole and win the event. We have a Shelby Mustang Funny Car that is capable of winning. We want to finish the season on a strong note and see how these championships unfold.”
Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team have set one goal for the closing races of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing season – post the quickest and fastest times of the young team’s career. During the August Indianapolis test, Tasca posted a career best ET of 4.077 at 309 miles per hour.
“I’m going out on a limb; we are very determined, before the season ends, to run quicker and faster than we’ve ever been,” said Tasca. “I have confidence in crew chiefs Chris Cunningham and Marc Denner and what they have been working on this season. We’re looking to end the season with a win or two and, more importantly, putting down some of the quickest and fastest runs that we’ve ever made. We want to run a low 4.0 at well over 310 miles per hour to end this season between now and Pomona.”
Since race day is Halloween, race fans might see Tasca dressed up, but the Rhode Island native will be recognizable in his “costume.”
“I can’t remember the last time I dressed up for Halloween,” said Tasca. “I’m going to be the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car driver for part of the day. Once the racing is over, I’m going to change into a Ford car salesman and sell some Fords to the fans as they leave – hopefully with a Wally in my hand.”

Eight Year Old's "Fired Up for a Cure" Paint Scheme Selected as Winner in FCSD's NASCAR Design Contest to Support JDRF

EIGHT YEAR OLD’S “FIRED UP FOR A CURE” PAINT SCHEME SELECTED AS WINNER IN FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE DIVISION’S NASCAR DESIGN CONTEST TO SUPPORT JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION
• Carson Luther, an eight-year-old resident of Wildwood, MO, designed the winning paint scheme that will appear on the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car during the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 16.
• Ford Customer Service Division’s Funny Car design contest helped raise awareness and $33,391 for JDRF and for research for Type 1 diabetes.
CONCORD, NC, October 13, 2010 – One young man wants to tell the entire NASCAR community that he’s fired up to find a cure for type 1 diabetes – and he plans on using the paint scheme on the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion running this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway to get the point across to millions of fans nationwide.
Carson Luther, an eight-year-old resident of Wildwood, MO, was selected as the winning designer of the Ford Customer Service Division’s (FCSD) NASCAR Design Contest to Support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
His design, entitled “JDRF – Fired Up for A Cure” was officially unveiled for the first time today at the Wood Brothers’ Racing shop today, with Luther and his family on hand.
“I wanted fire and flames on my car, and thought the blue would make the flames stand out,” said Carson Luther. “I want a cure for diabetes more than anything, even all the LEGOs in the world.”
For the past two years JDRF children have helped design the paint scheme featured on the NHRA Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang Nitro Funny Car, driven by Bob Tasca III. This year, in honor of the Wood Brothers celebrating 60 years of racing Ford products in NASCAR, FCSD has decided to bring the successful contest over to the legendary race team.
“We’re excited to see how Carson’s design performs on the race track this weekend. It looks great,” said Eddie Wood, co-owner of Wood Brothers Racing. “We’re honored to be part of a program this year and help raise money for such a worthwhile cause. Carson and his family are our guests this weekend, where we can educate the NASCAR community and raise awareness for type 1 diabetes.”
The Luther family, along with Wood Brothers Racing, Bill Elliott, driver of the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion and representatives from FCSD, were on hand for the unveiling today, Carson and his family will attend their first NASCAR race weekend and watch the JDRF-themed race car qualify for the Bank of America 500.
“This is my first NASCAR race,” said Luther. “My Mom, Grandma, Uncle and sisters are here with me in Charlotte and we’re really excited to see my design on the race car this weekend.”
Luther raised $5,341 for JDRF with his design. That number, added to the money raised by the designs that were submitted, brought the total for the contest to $33,391 for research for Type 1 diabetes, and nearly $150,000 in donations the past three years.
“Carson’s design looks fantastic on the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Fusion,” said David Arne, Group Marketing Manager, Ford Customer Service Division. “Carson was very active in this year’s contest and is an excellent spokesperson for JDRF.”
Each design was featured on www.jdrf.org/ford from July 6 to September 3, a total of 60 days in honor of Wood Brothers Racing’s 60-year anniversary of racing Ford products in NASCAR. During that time, the public was invited to vote for their favorite car design by making a monetary donation to JDRF. The top five donation-earning designs were narrowed down to one by a panel of judges from Ford Motor Company.
“The generosity shown from people from all across this country to help find a cure for type 1 diabetes was remarkable,” said Arne. “This year we raised more than $33,000 towards finding a cure.”
Diabetes affects more Ford families than any other disease. Ford Motor Company has raised more than $27 million for JDRF since the grassroots campaign started in 1998.
About Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)
JDRF is the worldwide leader for research to cure type 1 diabetes. It sets the global agenda for diabetes research, and is the largest charitable funder and advocate of diabetes science worldwide.
The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly, and can be fatal. Until a cure is found, people with type 1 diabetes have to test their blood sugar and give themselves insulin injections multiple times or use a pump – each day, every day of their lives. And even with that intensive care, insulin is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications, which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation.
Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1.3 billion to worldwide diabetes research, including more than $107 million last year. For more information, call 1-800-533-CURE (1-800-533-2873) or visit www.jdrf.org.

Heartbreak in Reading; Tasca and Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing Team Exit in First Round

HEARTBREAK IN READING; TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING TEAM EXIT IN FIRST ROUND

READING, PA – October 10, 2010 – As defending race champions in Reading, Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team had high hopes of scoring a win this weekend. Unfortunately, tire smoke ended their day in the first round.

As Tasca predicted, Reading presented some of the best conditions for qualifying on Friday and Saturday. During Friday’s second qualifying session, Tasca posted his best time of the day with a 4.085 second pass at 306.95 miles per hour.

After the four qualifying sessions were complete, Tasca was locked into the seventh qualifying position. Tasca’s Reading qualifying effort marks the 17th time of the 2010 season that he qualified in the top half of field.

During Sunday’s eliminations, Tasca faced Del Worsham. Tasca had the better reaction time but started smoking the tires around the 300-foot marker. Worsham smoked the tires just after Tasca but was able to recover and cross the finish line first. Tasca posted a 4.934-second run at 179.59 miles per hour compared to Worsham’s 4.507-second pass at 270.10 miles per hour.

“We smoked the tires and didn’t make it,” said Tasca. “Most of the cars smoked the tires; it was a crazy day. We had our Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang tuned to make a solid run and it was trying to run, but didn’t make it. I smoked the tires and started to pedal it and came within inches of hitting the wall.”

Despite a first round loss, Tasca remains in the fifth position with two races left in the 2010 season.

“We came into Reading in fifth and we’re leaving in fifth,” said Tasca. “With two races to go, we’re going to try to finish out the season strong. We have a lot to look forward to next year. Right now, we’re about finishing this year on a high note and obviously, working on elements for next year.”

Now in his third year as the driver/owner of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang, Tasca studies each run and learns from every race. Continuous improvement is what Tasca knows will take his team into the next race and season.

“We are leaving Reading with a lot more knowledge than what we had on Friday morning,” said Tasca. “We all wish we can have that run over again and make the appropriate changes. For our team, it’s a learning lesson. There’s always good we take away from every race. This Ford BOSS 500 platform is still a new tune-up for us. It’s showed a lot of promise on cool weather tracks and it’s given us a few curve balls at the same time. We’re going to digest this weekend, take the good and leave the bad behind. We’ll head into Las Vegas with a clean slate. We’re going to stay in Las Vegas and test after the race, so we’ll have a lot of data to put to use in Pomona and more importantly the 2011 season.”

Cruz Pedregon defeated Matt Hagan in the finals to win the 26th Annual Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals in Reading, PA.

NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series returns on Friday, October 29, for the NHRA Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Tasca and Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team Want Repeat in Reading

TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE TEAM WANT REPEAT IN READING

DEARBORN, MI – October 6, 2010 – Maple Grove Raceway holds a lot of fond memories for Bob Tasca III. It’s the track where he climbed into a professional race car for the first time, and also a track where he raced his Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car into the winner’s circle for the second time in his career.

Although Tasca considers Englishtown, NJ his home track, Reading, PA is the second closest geographically to the Rhode Island native. Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team head to Pennsylvania hoping to recapture the magic he had there last season.

“I have good memories at Reading,” said Tasca. “I won there in both my Alcohol and Nitro cars. Reading is in my backyard, probably the closest track to home other than Englishtown. I’m looking forward to going back to a place where I left with the trophy. I have a lot of good memories at Reading, and we’re going there this week to defend our race win in order to stay as a front runner for the 2010 championship.”

After experiencing ever-changing weather conditions the last couple of races, the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team will face much cooler temperatures this weekend.

“This weekend will really be optimal conditions all four qualifying sessions and you can’t say that very often during the season,” said Tasca. “We’re going to a race knowing that the weather conditions are going to give us some of the best conditions that we’ve seen all season. The fans are in for a treat and the drivers and teams are really looking forward to it. Maple Grove is a track where we have the opportunity to set the national record on almost any run. It’s going to be an exciting weekend.”

With only three races left in the Countdown to 1, Reading marks a pivotal race for Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team’s championship hopes. Tasca is fifth in the standings, with 124 points separating him from the leader.

“It’s a tough game out there,” said Tasca. “We are confident about our chances this weekend. As far as I am concerned, we are still in this championship race. The goal, all season and during this Countdown, has been to put ourselves in a position to win. Our goal will be the same this weekend.”
