TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING REACH SEMIFINALS IN POMONA; SHARE 'ONE FORD' SUCCESS AS FORCE WINS CHAMPIONSHIP

POMONA, CA – November 14, 2010 – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team drove to Pomona confident after a strong test in Las Vegas. The red and black Motorcraft racing machine was tuned and ready to go for the four-day season finale event.

Tasca qualified in the 13th position for Sunday’s eliminations after posting a weekend’s best qualifying effort of 4.190 seconds at 290.38 miles per hour during Thursday’s opening session.

With the championship on the line for fellow Ford Mustang Funny Car driver John Force, Tasca was instrumental in Force earning his 15th career Funny Car Championship title.

In the opening round on Sunday, Tasca faced Matt Hagan, Force’s chief competitor for the 2010 title. Tasca, in the less preferred lane, posted his best time of the weekend with a 4.148 second pass at 303.57 miles per hour defeating Hagan’s 4.162 second round at 290.44 miles per hour.

“It was probably one of the biggest rounds that I’ve ever had in my career from the standpoint of a championship being on the line with a sister car,” said Tasca. “Knowing that we had to win, knowing we were coming out of the 13th spot, and knowing that we really didn’t have a good handle on the race car all weekend.

“There are five Ford Funny Cars that compete with some of the best resources on the planet, continued Tasca. “Our fans and our sponsors want to see a championship and to know that we were in a position to open the door for Force. John said that we fired the shot heard around the world. Truthfully, to John’s point, word for word, he gave us the motivation that we bring this thing [championship’] home. To be a part of that, that’s history and whenever you’re a part of history to whatever degree it is, it’s something that you’ll never forget. It was an amazing moment for me, my team, Ford Motor Company and all the fans that support Motorcraft and Quick Lane. This is something I’ll have to live a long time to forget what this day was like.”

During the second round, Tasca faced Tony Pedregon. Tasca took the lead away from Pedregon before the 330-foot marker and reached the finish line first. Tasca posted a 4.189 second pass at 301.60 miles per hour compared to Pedregon’s 4.268 second pass at 288.77 miles per hour.

In his eighth semifinal appearance of the season, Tasca faced Jeff Arend. In the pair’s first semifinal meeting, Arend was first out of the gate. While the two ran nearly identical elapsed times, Arend pulled out ahead of Tasca to earn a trip to the finals. Arend posted a 4.183 second pass at 299.20 miles per hour compared to Tasca’s 4.186-second run at 299.46 miles per hour. Arend’s margin of victory was 0.0196 seconds, approximately nine feet.

“We were off by just an eyelash in that run against Arend,” said Tasca. Thanks to Chris Cunningham, Marc Denner and all of my guys. We want to come in and win but we also want to reflect on the weekend as whole. I just couldn’t be happier with how our team performed. These close semifinal losses, which we’ve had some unbelievable heartbreakers in the semifinal, it is only a matter of time before some of those start going our way.

In his third NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing season, Tasca finished fifth in series points. In the 2010 season Tasca won one race, made eight semifinal appearances and a scored a career best record of 29 round wins and 22 round losses.

“All in all, we’re ending the season fifth in points,” said Tasca. “It was an amazing season for my guys, particularly when you evaluate changing engine and clutch programs midseason. It is going to be a great offseason. We’ve got a race car right now there were a couple more races left on the schedule, who knows what could happen.”

Crew chiefs Chris Cunningham and Marc Denner have more than 20 years of racing experience between them. Tasca takes pride in his team and the accomplishments they have made in their young Funny Car career.

“I want to give all the credit to my team – Chris Cunningham, Marc Denner and the guys, they deserve all the accolades,” said Tasca. “They give me a great Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang Funny Car and they put me in a position to win. I certainly do the best I can behind the wheel of that hot rod. As a driver, I’ve never had more confidence in the car. We’ll take this positive energy into the off season. We’re a little disappointed we didn’t have a shot at winning the race, but we have a lot to be proud of for our third year.”

John Force defeated Jeff Arend to win the 46th Annual Auto Club Finals on Sunday in Pomona, California.

John Force won the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Funny Car Championship title.

Wrapping up 2010 in Pomona

Following the Las Vegas race over Halloween, the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team stayed at the drag strip to test. It was nice to test on Monday in what was probably the best test session we had in three years. We made great runs, recorded some great data and a lot of things that we wanted to try, worked for us. A positive test session is always a good thing.

I was invited to the AAPEX and SEMA shows that took place in Las Vegas the week following our race. I think I was in Las Vegas for just about a week between the race, AAPEX and SEMA.

The SEMA show is amazing show to be a part of as a race car driver/owner and Ford dealer. Ford had an incredible presence at SEMA with the all-new Fiesta that’s in showrooms now. The Ford display also had the new Explorer and they unveiled the new BOSS Mustang. Take it from me and I know cars - there are some really cool products from Ford coming to dealerships soon.

One of the reasons I went to SEMA was to unveil our Factory Five 33 Hot Rod, it’s a spinoff of the old ’43 Ford Hot Rod design with an all-Ford powertrain with the new 5-liter Coyote engine and a supercharger on it. The Factory Five is a neat looking car and was on display in the Ford booth.

In addition to unveiling some of the new cars, I was invited to sign autographs at SEMA and met some race car drivers that pretty much do the opposite of what we do. I met Ken Block who does things with a Ford Fiesta that most people think is impossible; and Vaughn Gittin Jr., who is the world champion drifter. That was fun to be part of that group. I got to go for a ride with Vaughn in his Mustang; that was a lot of fun out in front of the SEMA show. Everything Vaughn’s race car can do, mine can’t and everything my Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang Funny Car can do, his can’t.

After Las Vegas, I spent one night at home and we were off to Connecticut for a two-day hockey tournament with my oldest son Bob. I get so much enjoyment out of seeing my son do well with his friends and his team. It’s just incredible at eight years old, their level of competition and how excited they get about playing and winning. You would have thought they won the Stanley Cup, after they were finished with that tournament. By winning the tournament in Connecticut, they were invited to go to Detroit for a major tournament in January. It was a lot of fun to be around my family and my son’s friends. They’re asking me about racing and I’m asking them about hockey. Just to see that level of teamwork and enthusiasm in such a young group of kids is pretty neat. I’m glad I was able to share that time with Bob and his team. I’m just thrilled to see them win their first major tournament and leaving with the champions shirts. That was a lot of fun this past weekend.

But we’re back on the road to Pomona this week. We leave on Wednesday for the four-day event, which is a little different than what we typically run. We will have tremendous conditions – world record conditions, in fact. I won’t be surprised if we see a couple of world record runs in the fuel categories with the forecast that they are calling for in Pomona. If you are in Pomona, be sure to stop by the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing pits.
See you at the track.

TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING TEAM SEEK WEST COAST WIN TO END 2010 SEASON
DEARBORN, MI – November 9, 2010 – In three years of NHRA Funny Car racing, Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team have earned three wins – Gainesville (FL), Reading (PA) and Englishtown (NJ), three races near the east coast. Heading into the final race of the 2010 season, Tasca would love to add a west coast win to his resume.
This weekend marks the season finale of the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series; a season that’s been nearly as fast as the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang on a typical 1,000-foot run. Blink, and it is over.
“The season is coming to an end and we’re really starting to catch our stride on dialing in the set-up on this Ford BOSS 500 platform,” said Tasca. “We would love to end the season on a high note and take home the trophy. When you have a Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang running as good as ours, you don’t want the season to end.”
After the Las Vegas race, Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team used one of their NHRA allocated test sessions. In addition to getting ready for Pomona, the team wanted to get a jump start on 2011.
“We had the best test session in three years on the Monday after the Las Vegas race,” said Tasca. “We made great runs, logged great data, and a lot of the things we wanted to try, worked well for us. We’re looking to roll into Pomona with a race car that has been real consistent and with the added data from the Las Vegas test, we’re confident in how we will race in Pomona.”
Tasca looks to end the 2010 season with a win and would like to add Pomona to his win list this weekend, after qualifying fourth and reaching the semifinals there to kick off the season.
“Pomona is a major race,” said Tasca. “To start and end the season at Pomona, it’s as historic as it gets. Pomona is one of those races you want to have on your shelf and say that you won. We have as good a chance as any other team this weekend to do that.”
A Pomona win is important to Tasca, but so is a win on the west coast. In 2010, during the California races, Tasca reached the semifinals in both Sonoma and Pomona.
“I don’t have a west coast win yet, but we’re working on it. We had a great west coast races this year between semifinals in Pomona and Sonoma. We lost by an eyelash to Beckman in Sonoma, so I think it’s only a matter of time before we get a win on the west coast. I love racing on the west coast, and I know the guys love racing out there. I think our luck is about to change.”
