TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING USE OFF WEEK TO PREPARE FOR ST. LOUIS SUCCESS

DEARBORN, MI – April 27, 2010 – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team are looking to show the competition that they are the BOSS – this week with the BOSS 500 powered all-Ford Shelby Mustang.

Tasca looks to improve on his first-round loss slump and bring home the team’s first win of the 2010 season as the NHRA Full Throttle Series heads to Gateway International Raceway outside of St. Louis.

“Our Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team has had enough of going out in the first round,” said Tasca. “We’ve certainly have been through a transitional phase since our final round appearance in Gainesville. Our goal this weekend is to qualify in the top five Friday and Saturday. We know the next win is just around the corner for our Motorcraft/Quick Lane/Ford Parts.com Shelby Mustang team.”

Despite the minor setbacks in transitioning to the BOSS 500 engine platform, Tasca and the team are confident with their Shelby Mustang, especially after the strong runs in Las Vegas and Houston.

“We’ve got a great team and the best parts that you can have in a race car with this Ford BOSS platform,” said Tasca. “As a driver, I have all the confidence in the world in my team and crew chiefs. I’m very confident about racing in St. Louis.”

Tasca and the team used one of their four NHRA test sessions following the Las Vegas race. Bound and determined to not be a first-round casualty, the session allowed the team to test the limits of their Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang and obtain some critical data that will be instrumental in the coming weeks.

“The Las Vegas test was probably the most successful test session we ever had,” said Tasca. “We tried some new things and really pushed the envelope in some areas. Coming off the strong test session, we have a lot of confidence in the tune-up heading into St. Louis. It will only be a matter of time before we start stringing some rounds wins together.”

In addition to testing last week, Tasca participated in Ford’s annual Bring Your Child to Work Day in Dearborn, Mich. Tasca met with hundreds of young race fans, signed autographs and conducted a brief seminar on drag racing. More than 100 eager eyes watched and listened to Tasca talk about his Shelby Mustang, hoping to be a Funny Car racer one day.

“The children had some really great questions about drag racing and how I became a race car driver,” said Tasca. “This one boy in the front row asked me when I was going to win my next race. I laughed a little and said, ‘Hopefully, my next win will be this weekend in St. Louis.’”

TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING EXIT LAS VEGAS IN FIRST ROUND

Las Vegas, NV, April 18, 2010 – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team, loaded with key elements of the BOSS 500 engine platform, looked to turn their luck around in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Season this weekend at Las Vegas.

Tasca opened the weekend with an impressive 4.290-second pass at 293.66 miles per hour during the first qualifying session, which was third fastest of the round. Later on Friday, Tasca ran a 4.541-second pass at 256.21 miles per hour. After two rounds of qualifying, Tasca was comfortably in the top-12 with two additional passes on Saturday.

During Saturday’s qualifying session, Tasca posted a 4.388-second run at 285.47 miles per hour, despite a clean pass, Tasca and the team looked to improve their time and place in the ladder. In the closing qualifying session, Tasca took his Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang to the third quickest pass of the session with a 1,000-foot run in 4.243-seconds at 292.77 miles per hour.

The fourth and final qualifying pass would seed Tasca in the eighth position for Sunday’s eliminations. Tasca’s Ford was paired against Melanie Troxel’s Dodge in the opening round.

Once the Ford Mustang and Dodge Charger were staged and the tree lit, the two had nearly identical reaction times – Tasca's 0.092 to Troxel’s 0.094. In what was a close race, Troxel took the lead and reached the finish line ahead of Tasca by 0.0037 seconds, approximately 19 inches.

Tasca ran a 4.280-second pass at 288.89 miles per hour to Troxel’s 4.275-second pass at 301.33 miles per hour.

TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING TEAM LOOK TO CHANGE THEIR LUCK IN LAS VEGAS

DEARBORN, MI – April 14, 2010 – After a disappointing weekend in Houston, Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team look to change their luck as they head to The Strip in Las Vegas for the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals.

“Las Vegas is one of my favorite places to race,” says Tasca. “It is a Bruton Smith track and I can’t say enough for what Bruton has done for our sport. We’ve seen big numbers in Las Vegas and I expect to see that again this weekend. The conditions should be pretty optimal this time around, maybe a little bit warmer than what we usually see in the fall. It will be a fast race track and it will be a great race track for us to continue to evolve into this Ford BOSS 500 platform.”

As part of the ‘One Ford’ approach, Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team made a few changes to their Ford Shelby Mustang adding elements of the Ford BOSS 500 Platform in Houston. Even though he didn’t get the results he wanted, Tasca knows that success comes with time.

“This isn’t an instant change,” says Tasca. “You just can’t take a whole new tune-up, snap your fingers and the Mustang goes out and down the race track. If it were that easy, the guy who figures it out would never lose. Unfortunately it does take runs, it does take time.”

This weekend the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team slipped from sixth to ninth in the point standings. Only six races into the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car Series Season, Tasca knows there still is a lot of racing left and plenty of time to see the Ford BOSS 500 addition come into fruition.

“I’ve learned a lot from the few years that I’ve been racing,” says Tasca. “This is a long season and it’s about being in the top-10 by Indianapolis when the points reset for the Countdown to 1. There is a lot of racing ahead of us. I’m happy that we’re making this transition now versus at the end of the season.”

TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING EXIT HOUSTON IN FIRST ROUND

BAYTOWN, TX – April 11, 2010 – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing came into Houston Raceway Park looking to strengthen their Funny Car program with the added elements of the BOSS 500 engine platform. Although new parts provided the team with solid data, the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team’s day ended in the first round on Sunday afternoon.

During the opening qualifying session on Friday, the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing Shelby Mustang sported the BOSS 500 platform blower and injector combination. These components enabled Tasca to race his Mustang down the track in 4.464 seconds at a top speed of 201.61 miles per hour.

While waiting out the rain on Saturday, the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team added the Force- and Ford-engineered clutch to the red and black Shelby Mustang. The clutch addition enabled Tasca to post his best time of the weekend – a 4.124 second pass at 305.15 miles per hour.

“We felt that we were in a position on Saturday to add the clutch program to our Mustang since we were locked in the field on Friday,” said Tasca. “We had a great run on Saturday and were fourth quickest in that final session with a very solid run.”

Tasca’s best run of the weekend seeded him in the 10th position. During Sunday’s first round eliminations, Tasca's Ford would face the Toyota of Del Worsham.

Tasca was quicker off the line with a 0.067 reaction time to Worsham’s 0.088. By the time the duo reached the tree, Worsham took the lead and never looked back. In the end, Tasca’s 4.230-second run at 300.33 miles per hour fell short to Worsham’s 4.109-second run at 307.02 miles per hour.

“Unfortunately, we raced the wrong guy in the first round,” said Tasca. “Today was a very disappointing day. I’m very confident in the data we collect this weekend, moving forward and improving. We phased in a lot of the BOSS 500 elements into our Mustang’s tune-up this weekend. There is a learning curve to make this transition, but we’re fully committed to it. We know that the BOSS 500 platform is the dominant platform out here in Funny Car racing. It is going to take a little time to get everything to where it needs to be, but I feel very confident that we have great data to go into Las Vegas.”

Crew Chief Chris Cunningham knows the BOSS 500 platform will make the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang even more competitive as the season progresses.

“We had all the BOSS 500 parts available to us after Charlotte and we intended to test in Charlotte, but testing became unavailable,” said crew chief Chris Cunningham. “We went back to our shop and dynoed some of their blowers and ours and found a baseline. We were confident enough to come to Houston and still be competitive because our ultimate goal is to win for Motorcraft, Quick Lane and Ford.”

“We started to run Force’s blower and injector combination on Friday and it performed well,” continued Cunningham. “Then clutch program showed a lot of promise in our two Saturday runs. We gained the right information and felt confident to go into eliminations on Sunday with it. Unfortunately, we had a couple of setbacks and our Mustang didn’t run exactly as planned. We’ll take this information, run with it and go to Las Vegas and improve.”

Both driver and crew chief are looking forward to the continuous improvement and are eager to get back to racing next weekend at Las Vegas.

“This is definitely a step in the right direction,” said Cunningham. “We’re disappointed that we lost today but we gained a lot of valuable information.”

“I love going to races that are back-to-back,” said Tasca. “When you come off a disappointing weekend, it’s nice to get right back out and go racing again. We’re pumped up and ready to get to the Las Vegas track. The ‘One Ford’ approach will reap big rewards here in the short term and the future.”

Matt Hagan won Sunday’s 23rd Annual NHRA O’Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park.

TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING SEEK TO BUILD CONSISTENCY AT HOUSTON RACEWAY PARK

DEARBORN, MI – April 6, 2010 – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team look to build on the consistency they showed at Pomona and Gainesville. That consistency begins this weekend at Houston Raceway Park with Tasca utilizing elements of the BOSS 500 engine platform.

Last month, Tasca was involved in the Ford Racing announcement – the ‘One Ford’ approach. The ‘One Ford’ approach focuses on all Ford sponsored teams having the same availability to the Ford engineered technology and equipment, which will in turn make all Ford Mustang Funny Car teams more competitive.

“After the recent ‘One Ford’ announcement with John Force and his team, I spent the better part of last week at the Force camp getting a lot of the BOSS 500 engine pieces lined up for our Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang,” said Tasca. “Houston will be the first race for us with elements of the BOSS 500 technology in our race car. It would be a great place for us to get our first win of the season. We hope to have the full BOSS 500 package in our Mustang hopefully by the St. Louis race. This is a big step for our team.”

Houston Raceway Park is one of two tracks on the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing calendar where Tasca has yet to reach the second round. Tasca hopes to take his Shelby Mustang not only into the second round, but seeks to run the ladder and earn his third career win this weekend.

“I remember being at the Houston race in 1997 when Tony Pedregon won for John Force Racing,” said Tasca. “Tony was racing a Mustang that day and hopefully we’ll have my Mustang in the winner’s circle this weekend at Houston,” said Tasca. “We have a lot of confidence. I look back on the last two years at Houston and we might not have won a round, but I can tell you we have a lot of confidence going into Houston this year.”

Despite sliding a bit in the points after Concord, Tasca believes the key to success is a consistent Shelby Mustang Funny Car. Tasca relies on the 35-plus years of experience that crew chiefs Chris Cunningham and Marc Denner bring to the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang.

“We’re looking to get a little more consistent,” said Tasca. “We run really well with our hot track tune-up, which is as good as any other team out there. On the other side, we haven’t run well in what I call ‘cool weather conditions’ and that’s what we saw in Phoenix and Concord. With Our recent technology and the addition of the BOSS 500 platform, those issues should come to an end. We’re looking forward to Houston because the conditions will be ideal and we’ll be using our hot track tune-up, which has been successful in the past.

Before taking to the track on Friday, Tasca will have an insider’s look at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.

“On Thursday, we’re visiting NASA, meeting some astronauts and getting a tour of the Johnson Space Center,” said Tasca. “After we tour NASA, we’re bringing the astronauts with us to the race track. Top Fuel Funny Car racers are crossing paths with astronauts, so it should be a great weekend.”
